Retail & convenience

Retail POS Hardware, Built to Your Store Layout

DcaPOS supplies the terminals, printers, drawers and scanners behind checkout lanes in supermarkets, convenience chains, pharmacies and specialty stores. We build to your BOM: your logo, your housing colour, your OS image, your peripheral set.

What actually fails on a retail checkout lane

Lane hardware is usually bought on price per station. The costs that arrive later come from somewhere else: the drawer that sticks at the six o’clock rush, the printer head that needs replacing every eight months, the scanner that reads a creased label only on the second pass. These are the four things we design against.

Throughput at the peak hour

A lane is judged by scan-to-tender time. An omni-directional 2D imager removes the “wave it again” pause on damaged or curved barcodes, and an 80 mm printer running at 260 mm/s keeps the receipt from becoming the bottleneck. Both matter more than the CPU in the terminal.

Drawer cycle count

A busy lane opens its drawer 400 to 800 times a day. Ball-bearing slides and a steel gauge body are what stop the tray from racking sideways after two years. Our POS-410A and 405A use a three-position lock and an RJ11 trigger straight from the printer, so the drawer opens with the receipt, not after it.

Price changes and shelf labels

Promotional cycles break more retail rollouts than hardware faults do. If the store cannot reprint shelf labels in-house, every campaign becomes a labour cost. A 4-inch or 110 mm desktop label printer at the back office removes that dependency entirely.

Staff turnover

Front-of-store staff change often, so the terminal has to be learnable in an afternoon and hard to break by accident. A locked-down OS image with only the POS client visible, plus a keyboard-less capacitive screen, is usually the difference between a clean handover and a week of support calls.

Station by station

A typical store needs four or five different hardware profiles, not one terminal repeated everywhere. This is the split we quote most often.

What we customise

Retail chains rarely buy a catalogue product unchanged. The usual change list looks like this, and none of it requires a new tooling programme.

Housing and branding

Pantone-matched powder coat or plastic, laser-etched logo, custom boot splash and packaging artwork.

OS image and lockdown

Pre-loaded Android or Windows image, your APK or client installed, kiosk mode, disabled ports, custom MDM enrolment.

Peripheral set

Drawer pinout, scanner trigger behaviour, printer emulation and customer display protocol matched to the software you run.

Rollout logistics

Serialised cartons, per-store packing lists, spare-parts kit sized to the number of lanes, and a fixed BOM revision for the life of the contract.

Frequently asked questions

The questions buyers ask before they place a first order.

Can you match the footprint of the terminal we use today?

In most cases yes. Lane furniture, drawer cut-outs and VESA patterns constrain the replacement more than the electronics do, so we start from your existing dimensions and confirm them against our platform before quoting. Where the housing has to change, we quote tooling separately rather than hiding it in the unit price.

Windows or Android for a supermarket lane?

If your POS client is a Windows application with serial or OPOS peripheral drivers, stay on Windows: the DCA-Q3 and DCA-155W take J6412 up to Core i5 with native RS-232. Android is the better answer for new cloud POS deployments, self-checkout and anywhere you want a locked-down, remotely managed device.

Can the terminal boot straight into our own software?

Yes. We ship with your APK or client pre-installed, set it as the launcher, and can disable the settings app, browser and USB debugging. For Windows we provision a custom image with your drivers and autologon account. Both routes are tested on the actual unit before shipment, not just documented.

What is the MOQ for a private-label terminal?

It depends on how far the specification deviates from an existing platform. Logo, colour, OS image and packaging changes carry a low minimum. A new housing, screen size or board layout needs tooling and a higher volume; we will tell you which bracket you are in before you commit.

Can you support a rollout across several hundred stores?

That is the normal shape of our retail projects. We hold a fixed BOM revision, ship serialised cartons against per-store lists, and supply a spares kit sized to the fleet so a failed lane is a swap rather than a wait. Consumables and printer heads are quoted with the rollout, not sold separately later.
