Windows, With the Printer Inside

Two requirements usually conflict. The POS application is a Windows executable and cannot move, so the terminal must be x86 running Windows. And the counter is small, so a separate receipt printer is a problem — a second power adapter, a USB cable that re-enumerates, and 20 cm of counter depth for a device that prints a strip of paper.

The DCA-KSW resolves it: a Windows all-in-one terminal with a built-in 58 mm or 80 mm thermal printer, an auto cutter, and a cash drawer port on the terminal itself.

Two Chassis: 15.6-Inch Widescreen or 15.1-Inch 4:3

The model comes in two configurations, and the difference is the screen rather than the board:

• DCA-KSW-1 — 15.6-inch at 1366 × 768, 16:9. More horizontal room for a wider product grid or a two-panel layout.
• DCA-KSW-2 — 15.1-inch at 1024 × 768, 4:3. Matches POS software designed for a 4:3 layout, where the cart panel and function keys already have their vertical space budgeted.

Both are 250 cd/m², 150° horizontal and 140° vertical viewing angle, under multi-point projected G+G capacitive touch — glass-on-glass, which resists the delamination that film sensors develop on a counter cleaned daily.

A sub-display is available as a 15.6, 14 or 11.6-inch panel with or without touch at 1366 × 768, and a 2 × 20 VFD customer display can be mounted on the back cover.

The Integrated Printer

Direct thermal, with an auto cutter and a 50 km print head rating. Communication is over LPT — a raw parallel channel that most POS applications and Windows print paths expect for an integrated mechanism, with no USB stack in between.

• 80 mm — 79.5 ± 0.5 mm paper, 72 mm printable width, 100 mm/s. The standard retail receipt: 48 characters per line, itemised lines, a logo.
• 58 mm — 57.5 ± 0.5 mm paper, 48 mm printable width, 85 mm/s. Roughly 32 characters per line, for an order slip or a short receipt, using less paper and power.

What integration removes, specifically: a second power adapter, the USB printer cable (the most common counter fault, because a printer that re-enumerates changes port and stops printing), and the printer’s footprint on the counter.

What it costs: serviceability. An integrated mechanism cannot be swapped for a spare in five minutes. At 400 receipts a day a 50 km head is roughly four years, which normally outlasts the terminal — but a high-volume site should ask about the replacement procedure at quotation stage.

The Drawer Port Is on the Terminal, Not the Printer

An RJ11 cash drawer port is fitted to the terminal. On a conventional setup the drawer is triggered by the printer, so a print fault stops the drawer opening and the till stops working. With the port on the terminal, the drawer trigger comes from the application rather than the print job, which decouples the two failure modes.

Confirm the drawer’s solenoid voltage against the port before wiring. Both 12 V and 24 V drawers are common, and the connector is an RJ11 either way — a mismatch is invisible until the drawer either refuses to open or burns its solenoid. The drawers in this range are the POS-410A, POS-410B, POS-405A and POS-350A.

The Platform

Intel Celeron J1900 at 2.0 GHz, with Core i3 / i5 4th generation as options. Memory is a single SO-DIMM DDR3 slot at 1333/1600 MHz with 2, 4 or 8 GB depending on configuration; storage is mSATA SSD from 64 GB to 256 GB.

Windows 7, 8, 10, Embedded, WEPOS and Linux are supported. For a new deployment, Windows 10 IoT / LTSC is the version to specify: long-term servicing, no feature updates on a trading terminal. WEPOS is listed because a large installed base of POS software was certified against POSReady, and that certification is often what a support contract depends on.

Audio is an onboard Realtek ALC662 with mic in and audio out, and 4 Ω / 5 W internal speakers are available as an option.

I/O and Options

One USB 3.0 and five USB 2.0 ports, one VGA output, one RJ45 at 10/100 Mbps with a Mini-PCIe slot for an embedded Wi-Fi module, one COM (RS232) or HDMI as an alternative configuration, mic in and audio out, and the RJ11 drawer port.

Six USB ports on a terminal with a built-in printer is still the right number: sites attach a scanner, a keyboard, a scale, a card reader and a second display adapter regardless of what is built in.

Options include an ISO three-track side MSR, a web camera on top of the display, an internal 1D/2D scanner, a 2 × 20 VFD customer display and internal speakers.

Physical and Power

Plastic and metal combined, in white or black with an orange or blue frame. Net 5.6 kg and gross 7.7 kg for a 15.6-inch dual-screen build without a printer, packed at 340 × 450 × 480 mm; a two-in-one carton at 700 × 460 × 500 mm and 17 kg gross is available for a full register.

Power is a 110–240 V adapter with DC 12 V / 5 A output (a different rating applies to the 80 mm printer configuration — confirm at order). Mains leads are available for US, EU, UK and custom types. Compliance covers FCC Class A, CE, LVD and CCC; operating range is 0–40 °C at 10–80% RH.

Where the DCA-KSW Fits

• Windows POS software with no counter space for a printer. The exact combination this model exists for.
• Sites that keep a 4:3 layout. KSW-2 at 15.1-inch 1024 × 768.
• Cash-heavy counters. Drawer port on the terminal rather than the printer.
• Integrated registers. Optional internal scanner, MSR, webcam and speakers.
• Not where the printer must be swappable in minutes. An external printer is the right choice for a site that cannot take the terminal out of service.
• Not where the application is Android. The DCA-KSA is the Android equivalent with the same integrated-printer design.

Can I keep my existing Windows POS software?

Yes, if it runs on the Windows version you specify. Confirm the certified OS version and order that build.

Which printer width should I choose?

80 mm for a standard retail receipt with an itemised layout and a logo; 58 mm for order slips and short receipts.

Does the printer need its own power supply?

No — it is powered from the terminal’s 12 V supply, one adapter for the whole unit.

Can it drive a cash drawer?

Yes, via the RJ11 port on the terminal. Match the drawer’s solenoid voltage (12 V or 24 V) before wiring.

Can I add a barcode scanner?

An internal 1D/2D scanner is an option specified at build time. If it may be needed later, specify it on the original order.
