Description

The Printer That Leaves the Counter

A receipt printer is normally a fixed object. The POS-5811 is the opposite: a 58 mm thermal printer with a 7.4 V / 2000 mAh battery, Bluetooth and USB, built to be carried. That changes what it is for.

Four workflows where a portable receipt printer is not a compromise but the right tool:

  • Queue busting. A staff member takes orders and prints a receipt or an order slip in the queue, instead of the customer waiting to reach the till.
  • Table service. The order goes to the kitchen and a customer copy is printed at the table, with no second trip.
  • Delivery and field service. A proof of delivery or a job sheet printed on site, handed over immediately, instead of written by hand.
  • Events and pop-ups. A counter with no cabling, no power run, and a printer that fits in a bag.

Battery: What 2,000 mAh Actually Prints

The unit is specified at 120 thermal rolls per full charge, with four days of standby. That is the number to design around, because it converts a battery specification into an operating routine.

At 120 receipts per charge, a site printing 40 receipts a day charges every three days. One printing 120 a day charges nightly. The figure also depends on print density and the length of each receipt — a 20-line receipt draws more than a 5-line one, so treat 120 as the ceiling rather than the average.

Two practical consequences:

  • Charging has to be a routine, not an afterthought. A printer that dies mid-shift is worse than a wired one, because there is no fallback. Put the charger where the device is docked at close of business.
  • Standby is the hidden drain. Four days of standby is fine, but a printer left switched on over a weekend is flat on Monday. Switch it off, or accept the recharge.

The battery is 7.4 V, charged from DC 5 V / 2 A — so a standard USB power supply works, which means a phone charger in a van or a power bank at an event.

58 mm: Smaller Paper, Different Economics

Paper is 57.5 ± 0.5 mm wide on rolls up to 50 mm diameter, 0.06–0.08 mm thick, at 203 dpi and 70 mm/s. That is a receipt of about 32 characters per line — narrower than the 48 characters of an 80 mm printer.

The trade is deliberate:

  • The device is small enough to carry. An 80 mm mechanism with a battery and a roll is a bag-sized object; a 58 mm one fits in a hand.
  • Paper is cheaper and the rolls last longer on a charge. Less paper per receipt means more receipts per battery cycle.
  • Itemised lines wrap. A long product name breaks across two lines, and a receipt with many items gets long. For an order slip, a delivery note or a short receipt that is fine; for a detailed invoice it is not.

The roll diameter limit of 50 mm is worth noting: 58 mm rolls come in larger diameters, and a 60 mm roll will not fit under the cover. Order the 50 mm rolls.

ESC/POS Over Bluetooth and USB

The command set is ESC/POS, which is the important compatibility fact: any Android POS app, any iOS receipt SDK and any Windows POS software that prints to an ESC/POS printer can drive it. There is no proprietary print language to integrate.

Bluetooth is the normal connection — paired to a phone, a tablet or a handheld terminal. USB is the fallback for charging and for a wired connection at a fixed station. Two notes from field use:

  • Pairing is per device. A printer paired to one phone will not automatically work with a second. In a team, decide which device owns the printer, or plan the pairing step into shift handover.
  • Bluetooth throughput is the constraint on receipt length. A long receipt with a logo sent as a bitmap is slow over Bluetooth; keep the template lean or store the logo in the printer.

Where the POS-5811 Fits

  • Queue busting and table service. A receipt printed where the order is taken.
  • Delivery and field service. Proof of delivery handed over on site.
  • Events, markets and pop-ups. No power run, no cabling.
  • Any app that prints ESC/POS. Android, iOS or Windows.
  • Not for a fixed till. A wired 80 mm printer is faster, cheaper to run and never needs charging — the POS-8250 is the counter unit.
  • Not for detailed invoices. 32 characters per line and a 50 mm roll limit.
  • Not for labels. Continuous receipt roll only — the POS-5816 is the portable label unit.

The Portable Range

  • POS-5811 — this unit. 58 mm receipt, USB/Bluetooth, 70 mm/s, 2,000 mAh, 120 rolls per charge.
  • POS-5816 — 58 mm label, USB-C and Bluetooth 4.0, label and black-mark detection, 20–50 mm paper.
  • POS-8007 — 80 mm label, 72 mm print width, 2,600 mAh, TFT status display.
  • POS-8008 — 80 mm mini, ESC/POS, TSPL and CPCL, cover-open alarm.
  • POS-5890U — 58 mm desk printer, USB and Bluetooth, mains powered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many receipts per charge?

Approximately 120 thermal rolls, with four days of standby. Print density and receipt length affect the figure, so treat it as a maximum.

Can it print from an iPhone?

Yes, over Bluetooth using an app that supports ESC/POS receipt printing. Confirm the app’s printer support before committing.

Does it need a driver?

No on Android and iOS — the app sends ESC/POS over Bluetooth. On Windows, a standard ESC/POS driver or a raw Bluetooth serial connection works.

What paper does it take?

57.5 ± 0.5 mm thermal roll, 50 mm maximum diameter, 0.06–0.08 mm thick. Larger-diameter rolls will not fit.

Does it have a cutter?

No. Receipts are torn against the tear bar, which is normal for a portable unit — a motorised cutter adds weight and a failure point.

What is the warranty?

12 months minimum. OEM branding and packaging available — ask at quotation stage.
