A Payment Terminal Built for Unattended Machines

The DCA-M30 is not a till and not a handheld POS in the retail sense. Read the interface list and the purpose becomes clear: an MDB Slave port, 12–48 V DC power delivered over MDB or RS232, two RS232 ports, four PSAM slots conforming to ISO7816, and external antenna connectors. This is a payment and interaction terminal designed to be built into a vending machine, a parking barrier, an EV charger, a laundromat controller or a self-service locker — equipment that already speaks MDB and needs a way to take a card.

At 152 × 93 × 41 mm and 418 g it fits where a tablet will not, and with IP65 and IK09 ratings it survives an environment that a counter POS never sees.

Why MDB and PSAM Change the Integration

MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) is the protocol vending machines use to talk to coin mech, bill validator and card reader. A terminal with an MDB Slave port can be dropped into an existing machine’s bus and powered from it — no separate mains run, no additional power supply inside a cabinet that has no room for one. The 12–48 V DC input over MDB or RS232 is the detail that makes retrofit projects feasible.

The four PSAM slots matter in markets where payment schemes require a secure access module — fuel, transit, campus and government-subsidised payment all depend on it. Consumer-grade Android terminals have no PSAM at all, which is why they cannot be used for those schemes regardless of software.

• Vending and micromarkets. Card, QR and NFC payment bolted onto an existing machine, powered from the machine itself.
• Parking and access control. Outdoor-rated operation from −20 to 60 °C with 5–95% non-condensing humidity, and GPS for site and asset tracking.

Display and input. 5.0-inch 1280×720 IPS with an ultra-sensitive capacitive panel specified to work with gloves and wet fingers — a deliberate choice for outdoor and industrial installations, and one of the few specifications here that is genuinely hard to substitute.

Compute and storage. Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 at 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC on a Safedroid (Android 14) base. That is deliberately modest: a payment terminal should be a fixed-function device, and a locked-down OS image is easier to certify than a general-purpose tablet.

Connectivity. 4G with European band defaults (FDD-LTE B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28, TDD B38/B40/B41 – confirm bands for your region), dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/BeiDou/GLONASS/Galileo, plus three SMA connectors for external antennas when the terminal sits inside a metal cabinet.

Payment. Contactless 14443A/14443B, smart card per ISO7816, four PSAM slots, front 5 MP camera for QR payment, speaker and microphone.

Durability. IP65 and IK09, operating −20 to 60 °C, storage −30 to 70 °C. CE, RoHS, FCC and GMS certification.

What to Confirm Before Ordering

Three things decide whether an M30 project runs smoothly: the machine’s existing protocol (MDB version and whether a slave address is free), the payment scheme’s PSAM requirement, and the LTE bands your acquirer or network uses. The M30 is commonly bought as a platform for a branded unattended payment product: custom enclosure front, logo, keypad legends, boot screen, packaging, and a locked-down firmware image with only your application reachable. Frequently Asked Questions

Can it be powered directly from the vending machine?

Yes — 12–48 V DC over MDB Slave or RS232 is exactly the intended path. Confirm the machine’s available voltage and current budget with us so the terminal’s draw is accounted for alongside the existing peripherals.

Does it support QR payment as well as cards?

Yes. The 5 MP front camera reads customer-presented QR codes, and contactless covers cards and phone wallets over 14443A/B. Which combination is live depends on your payment application and acquirer.

What are the four PSAM slots for?

Secure access modules required by certain payment schemes — typically fuel, transit and subsidised payment programmes. If your scheme does not require PSAM, the slots simply remain unused.

Is the device suitable for an outdoor installation?

IP65 and IK09 with a −20 to 60 °C operating range covers a lot of outdoor equipment, but “outdoor” also means sun load and condensation. If the terminal faces direct sun or sits in a sealed cabinet, tell us — we will advise on shading, antenna placement and ventilation rather than let the rating be over-read.
