A 3-Inch Label Printer That Fits in a Pocket of a Work Bag

Field labelling has a specific constraint: the label is 4 inches wide in the system, and the person applying it is standing in front of a machine, a pallet or a delivery. Printing it in the office and carrying it out is the workflow that fails, because the label is needed at the point of application.

The POS-8007 puts a 3-inch mechanism in a 115 × 110 × 58 mm body at 350 g with the battery in: 72 mm print width, 203 dpi, paper from 20 to 80 mm wide, on a 7.4 V / 2,600 mAh pack, over USB-C or Bluetooth.

20–80 mm: A Wider Range Than Most Portable Units

Most portable label printers cap at 72 or 76 mm of paper. This one accepts 20–80 mm, which means the same device prints:

• 4-inch class labels at 72 mm print width on 80 mm stock — carton labels, pallet labels, asset tags.
• Narrow labels down to 20 mm — cable markers, small asset tags, sample labels.
• Receipt-width stock in between, if the workflow needs a receipt rather than a label.

The roll diameter limit is 50 mm, which is the constraint to plan around: a full-size 80 mm label roll is larger than that, so the unit takes the smaller “mobile” rolls. That is normal for a portable device and it means more roll changes than a desktop printer.

The TFT Status Display: Why It Changes Field Use

The unit has a TFT display that reports communication mode, printing state, out of paper, out of power, sleep mode and paper type.

That sounds like a convenience and is actually a support feature. A portable printer in the field is operated by someone whose job is not printers, and the failure they hit is always one of four things: it will not connect, it has no paper, the battery is flat, or the label stock is the wrong type. A display that names the problem removes the phone call. Compare that with a unit that beeps twice and stops, and the operator has no information at all.

Battery: 2,600 mAh at 7.4 V

Packing a 2,600 mAh lithium pack at 7.4 V into a 350 g device is the reason this model exists alongside the smaller 58 mm portable units. The higher-voltage pack drives the 80 mm mechanism with less current for the same torque, which is why a wider printer can still run a useful session on a charge.

Print speed is 60 mm/s — deliberately slower than the 70 mm/s of the smaller units, because a wider head needs more energy per millimetre of paper. The practical reading: a 100 × 150 mm shipping label takes about 2.5 seconds, and a session of a few hundred labels is within a charge. Continuous all-day printing is not.

Charging is DC 5 V / 1 A over USB-C from a 100–240 V adapter, so a phone charger or a power bank works. That matters in a van, on a site, or at a trade stand.

Fonts, Codes and Local Language Support

The inner code set covers ASCII font libraries at 8 × 16, 12 × 24, 16 × 32 and 24 × 48 dots, plus GBK (16 × 16) and GB1830 (24 × 24). The Chinese character sets are the practical point: a lot of portable label printers print Latin text only, and a deployment that needs CJK text on a label has to send every character as a bitmap, which is slow over Bluetooth and looks poor at 203 dpi. Native GBK support prints CJK text as text.

Symbologies cover the 1D set — UPC, UPC-E, Code 39, EAN-13, EAN-8, Codabar, Code 128, Code 93, ITF — plus QR and PDF417, generated by the printer. Memory is 8 MB ROM and 8 MB DRAM, enough for stored label formats and fonts, which keeps the Bluetooth payload small.

Command languages are TSPL and ESC/POS: TSPL for label software and warehouse systems, ESC/POS for plain receipt output.

Detection and Print Life

Black-mark detection and label (gap) detection are both fitted, so die-cut and mark-sensed stock both register correctly — the thing that separates a label printer from a small receipt printer. Print head life is 50 km at 25% density or 100 million pulses per dot.

Paper thickness runs 0.06–0.20 mm. Synthetic and laminated stocks above that will not feed reliably; standard paper labels are comfortably inside the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How wide a label can it print?

72 mm print width on paper up to 80 mm wide. Standard 4-inch carton labels at 100 × 150 mm will not fit — this is a 3-inch mechanism.

Does it print Chinese characters?

Yes. GBK (16 × 16) and GB1830 (24 × 24) fonts are built in, so CJK text prints natively rather than as a bitmap.

How long does the battery last?
