Counter Depth Is the Constraint Nobody Measures

A POS terminal with a conventional stand occupies 25–35 cm of counter depth, most of it behind the screen where nobody looks. On a 50 cm service counter that leaves the cashier a narrow strip for the bag, the drawer and their hands — and on a coffee window or a market stall, it leaves nothing.

The DCA-152W addresses that with a foldable stand: the screen sits on an arm that folds down against the counter, so the whole terminal collapses into a shallow footprint when it is not in use or when it is being transported.

What a Foldable Stand Actually Solves

Three situations, none of them about aesthetics:

• Shallow counters. Folded or partially folded, the terminal needs far less depth than a rigid stand. On a 40–45 cm counter that is the difference between a terminal that fits and one that overhangs into the customer’s space.
• Pop-up and event trading. A terminal that folds flat packs into a case with the rest of the kit, instead of needing a box the size of the counter.
• Counter reconfiguration. Retail layouts change seasonally. A stand that adjusts angle and height without tools moves with the layout rather than dictating it.

The mechanism is mechanical, not motorised, which is the right choice for a device that is adjusted a few times a day at most — a friction hinge has nothing to fail and no power to lose.

Two Screen Sizes, Two Aspect Ratios

The main panel is offered as 15 or 15.6 inches at 1024 × 768 or 1366 × 768 — that is, 4:3 or 16:9. The choice is a software decision rather than a preference:

• 15-inch 4:3 at 1024 × 768 matches POS applications laid out for that resolution: a six-column product grid, a cart panel, a function-key row. Nothing has to be redesigned.
• 15.6-inch 16:9 at 1366 × 768 gives more horizontal room for a wider product grid or a two-panel layout, and it is the right choice for a web-based application designed for widescreen.

Both are LED-backlit at 300 or 350 nits with projected capacitive touch. The touch layer is the standard G+G-style capacitive panel used across this chassis family — adequate for a counter that gets wiped down.

The Platform

Intel Celeron J1900 at up to 2.42 GHz, J3455 at up to 2.30 GHz, or a Core i3/i5 option. Memory is 4 GB standard on DDR3L or DDR4 depending on configuration, expandable to 8, 16 or 32 GB. Storage is mSATA or M.2 from 32 GB to 512 GB, with an optional 2.5-inch SATA SSD or a 500 GB / 1 TB hard disk for a site that stores video or a long transaction history locally.

Windows 7, 10, 11 and POSReady are supported. For a new deployment, specify Windows 10 IoT / LTSC: no feature updates arriving on a trading terminal, security patches only, support for years.

Cooling is fanless on the low-power configurations and fan-assisted on the higher ones. In a quiet boutique or a small café, fanless is worth specifying — a fan in a terminal behind a counter is audible in a room with no other noise.

I/O

One VGA output, or VGA plus HDMI; six external USB ports; one RJ45; two RS232 COM ports; line out and mic in; an optional RJ11 cash drawer port.

Six USB ports on a compact terminal is more than the peripheral count, deliberately: a receipt printer, a scanner, a drawer trigger, a keyboard, and still room for a scale or a card reader. Two native COM ports cover the devices that will not enumerate as USB — a customer display on CD5220, a scale, a legacy printer.

Options include an ISO three-track MSR, a 9.7 or 12-inch second display with an optional touch layer, a VFD220 customer display, a Mini-PCIe Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 4 Ω / 3 W speaker. VESA 75 × 75 and 100 × 100 mounting is available on the single-display configuration.

Physical and Environment

360 × 380 × 210 mm and 5.10 kg net for the single-display build, packed at 430 × 450 × 290 mm and 7.50 kg. Black.

Power is 100–240 V AC in, 12 V / 5 A DC out — one adapter for the terminal, with mains leads for US, EU and UK plugs or a custom type. Operating range 0–50 °C, storage −20 to 60 °C, which is a wider envelope than most plastic-chassis terminals and reflects the aluminium-based construction.

Where the DCA-152W Fits

• Shallow and narrow counters. The foldable stand is the whole point.
• Coffee windows, kiosks and market stalls. Folds flat for transport and storage.
• Layouts that change seasonally. Angle and height adjust without tools.
• Quiet environments. Fanless on the low-power configurations.
• Not where a customer display must be integrated into the chassis. The DCA-151WS has the front panel built on.
• Not where a printer must be inside the terminal. The DCA-KSW has a built-in 58 or 80 mm mechanism.
