Check-in, Pharmacy and Clinical Hardware for Healthcare
Healthcare hardware is specified by cleaning regime and privacy, not by processor. DcaPOS supplies check-in kiosks, pharmacy counters, patient-facing displays and fanless units for carts and consultation rooms.
Three constraints that healthcare projects do not budget for
Clinical environments break hardware in ways a retail spec sheet never mentions. These are the three that decide whether an installation survives its first year.
The cleaning regime, not the workload
Counters and kiosks are wiped several times a day with alcohol or chlorine-based disinfectant. That attacks powder coat, screen printing and the adhesive around a capacitive film. Specify a sealed front panel with a chemically resistant surface, and clean the panel rather than the bezel seam.
Privacy in the queue
A check-in screen facing the waiting room shows the next patient’s date of birth to everyone behind them. Either angle the unit, fit a privacy filter, or keep the confirmation on a small customer display and the record on the staff side. This is a layout decision that has to be made before the kiosk is ordered.
Silence and dust
Consultation rooms, wards and dispensing areas cannot carry fan noise, and a fan in a clinical space pulls lint and dust into the chassis within months. Fanless aluminium units with no intake are the only configuration we recommend for anything inside a treatment area.
Station by station
The configuration below reflects what clinics and pharmacy groups order most often.
| Station | What we specify | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Reception check-in | Floor or desk kiosk, 23.8-inch, 10-point touch, optional card and barcode reader | Queues are managed at the kiosk instead of the counter. |
| Pharmacy counter | 15.6-inch terminal with 80 mm or 58 mm printer and cash drawer | Label and receipt printing at the point of dispensing. |
| Consultation room | Fanless mini PC with dual display output, VESA mounted | No fan noise, no intake to clog, dual screens for clinician and patient. |
| Patient-facing display | 10.1-inch pole or 7-inch counter display | Shows the amount due without turning the clinician’s screen outward. |
| Ward and stockroom | Handheld PDA with 2D scan, 58 mm mobile printer | Stock, specimen and asset tracking at the point of use. |

What we customise
Clinical projects need a paper trail as much as a device. Both are part of the quote.
Cleanable surfaces
Sealed front panels, chemically resistant overlay and a housing finish specified against the disinfectant your facility actually uses.
Locked-down configuration
Auto-start on your check-in or EMR client, USB storage disabled, settings and browser removed from the launcher, remote wipe supported.
Mounting and cable management
Desk clamp, pole, wall and cart mounting options with cables routed inside the mount so nothing hangs where it can be pulled.
Documentation
Test records, inspection reports and serial-number lists per site, so the device is auditable by your biomedical or IT team.
Frequently asked questions
The questions buyers ask before they place a first order.
Can the kiosk be cleaned with hospital disinfectant?
The front panel is a sealed glass surface that tolerates routine alcohol and quaternary ammonium wipes. What degrades first is the bezel seam and any printed overlay, so we specify the finish against the cleaning agent you use rather than claiming universal resistance. Tell us the product and we will confirm compatibility in writing.
How do we keep the next patient’s details off the screen?
Three options, usually combined: mount the kiosk at an angle to the queue, fit a privacy filter, and keep confirmation on a small customer-facing display while the record stays on the staff side. If your check-in software controls the confirmation screen, the layout decision is the one that matters.
Can the device be locked to a single application?
Yes. On Android we set your app as the launcher and remove settings, browser and USB debugging from the user’s reach. On Windows we provision a custom image with autologon and a shell replacement. Both are tested on the shipped unit, and remote wipe or re-provisioning can be included.
Why fanless rather than a standard mini PC?
A fan pulls lint, dust and aerosol into the chassis and becomes the first component to fail. In a consultation room it is also audible. Fanless aluminium with the chassis as heat spreader removes both problems, at the cost of a lower sustained CPU ceiling, which clinical software rarely reaches.
Can we start with a small pilot before committing to a rollout?
That is how most clinical projects begin. We quote pilot units at the same BOM revision as the volume order so the pilot results actually predict the rollout, and we hold that revision for the duration of the contract.
Specifying hardware for a clinic or pharmacy group?
Send the station list, the cleaning agent and the software you run. We will confirm compatibility before quoting.
