Thermal Label Printer

Seven direct thermal label printers at 203 dpi: four desktop units on 104 to 110 mm stock printing at 160 mm/s, and three portables from 58 to 80 mm on 1500 to 2000 mAh batteries. Every model takes TSPL, CPCL and ESC/POS with gap and black-mark label stock, and carries OEM/ODM branding.

Buying guide

How to choose a thermal label printer: media width, method, interface

Seven direct thermal label printers, from a 110 mm desktop unit that takes a full 4 x 6 shipping label down to a 58 mm pocket printer on a 1500 mAh battery. Every one prints at 203 dpi on gap, black-mark and continuous stock. What separates them is the media width and the interface, not the print engine.

01

Media width narrows the list before anything else

The four desktop units sit in the 104 to 110 mm class: POS-9200 and POS-9210 print 100 mm wide on paper up to 110 plus or minus 0.5 mm, POS-9220 prints 104 mm, and POS-9250 rides a 25 to 100 mm print width on 104 mm media, which is the one to pick when the label size changes through the day. That class covers a 4 x 6 inch carton label with a feed gap. The portables are narrower by design: POS-8007 takes 20 to 80 mm, POS-8008 30 to 72 mm, POS-5816 20 to 50 mm - shelf labels, price tags and 58 mm receipts, not cartons.

02

Direct thermal means no ribbon, and a shorter label life

All seven are direct line thermal at 203 dpi: the head heats the paper, there is no ribbon to load and nothing but the roll goes in. The trade is that the image fades under heat, sunlight and abrasion. That suits a shipping label that lives a week and a shelf label that gets replaced; it is the wrong machine for an asset tag meant to survive five years outdoors. Rated head life is 50 km on POS-9250, POS-8007 and POS-5816, and 100 million pulses on POS-9200, POS-9210 and POS-8008.

03

Command language and interface decide whether it drops into your app

Every model takes TSPL, CPCL and ESC/POS, so label templates usually port across without a rewrite - and on POS-9200 and POS-9210 the same head prints receipts as well as labels, which is worth knowing before buying a second printer for the till. The desktop units carry USB and LAN, with Bluetooth on POS-9200 and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on POS-9210, POS-9220 and POS-9250. The portables are USB-C plus Bluetooth 4.0, so the phone or tablet in the operator hand is the host. Test the driver on one device before ordering a fleet.

Frequently asked questions

Can these printers run thermal transfer labels?

No. All seven are direct thermal: there is no ribbon spindle and no transfer setting. If the label has to survive solvent, sunlight or five years of abrasion, direct thermal is the wrong technology and we would rather say so than sell this machine into that job. For carton labels, shelf labels, receipts and short-life tags it is the cheaper and simpler path - one consumable, no ribbon inventory, no ribbon take-up to clean.

What label stock do they accept?

Gap labels, black-mark labels, continuous paper, folded or fan-fold stock and tag paper, at 0.06 to 0.30 mm on the desktop units and 0.06 to 0.20 mm on POS-5816. POS-9250 senses gap, black mark, cover and paper exit separately, so a die-cut label with a small gap or a black-mark roll both work without changing the platen. Roll diameter matters as much as width on the portables: POS-5816 takes a 50 mm roll at most, which is a shorter run than a desktop unit holding a 100 mm roll.

Do the portable models print from a phone?

Yes. POS-8007, POS-8008 and POS-5816 pair over Bluetooth 4.0 and charge over USB-C, and they take TSPL, CPCL and ESC/POS commands, so an Android or iOS app that already drives a Bluetooth printer usually works unchanged. The desktop units publish drivers for Windows 2003 through 10, macOS, iOS and Android. Bluetooth range in a stockroom is shorter than the spec suggests once shelving and a metal roller door are in the path - test at the far end of the aisle, not at the desk.

Send the label size, the daily volume and what the printer is plugged into, and we will narrow seven models to one or two. Till printers are on the receipt printer page, and the OEM/ODM programme is on the thermal printer page.
